A Personalized Approach to Back and Neck Pain
Living with back or neck pain can affect nearly every part of your day, from sitting comfortably and sleeping well to enjoying the activities you love. At Moveology 605 in Sioux Falls, we offer non surgical spinal decompression as one of several treatment options within our personalized chiropractic care approach. Using specialized spinal traction technology, our clinical team evaluates your needs to determine whether this treatment may be appropriate.
Non surgical spinal decompression is a form of motorized traction. It gently stretches a targeted area of the spine through controlled cycles of tension and relaxation while you rest on a treatment table.
It may be considered for certain disc-related symptoms, back pain or neck discomfort. It is different from surgical spinal decompression, which is an operation performed by a surgeon. It is not appropriate for every patient, and research results vary by condition.
Lower back
Focused on the lower back. Patients with persistent lower back discomfort, selected disc-related symptoms or certain radiating leg symptoms may be evaluated for lumbar decompression in Sioux Falls.
Neck
Focused on the neck. Patients with persistent neck discomfort, selected cervical disc-related concerns or certain radiating arm symptoms may be evaluated for cervical decompression.
Neither treatment cures disc herniations or nerve compression. Your evaluation determines whether either area should be considered.
Specialized equipment applies controlled traction through a treatment table, gradually applying and releasing tension according to settings selected by the clinician. The objective is to temporarily change the mechanical loading on the selected region of the spine.
The technology supports clinical decision making; it does not replace it. Decompression does not permanently reposition discs, and pressure relief or faster healing are not guaranteed.
Care begins with a review of your health history, symptoms, examination findings and goals. From there, your plan may include chiropractic care, selected therapies from our Treatments & Technology menu such as acupuncture, exercise recommendations, or additional medical evaluation when appropriate.
Not every patient needs decompression, and services are never required to be combined.
Schedule a ConsultationWe talk through your symptoms, health history, functional limitations and what you want to get back to.
A clinical assessment, plus any appropriate further evaluation. If imaging or testing is needed, our clinic orders it.
Individualized treatment recommendations, including decompression only when it is appropriate for you.
Regular reassessment, with adjustments to your care recommendations when necessary.
Decompression is a supervised, table-based treatment. You lie down on the table, face up or face down depending on the area being treated, and our team positions and secures you comfortably.
The table then applies controlled traction while the settings are monitored. Most people feel a gentle stretching sensation. You can speak up at any time if something feels uncomfortable, and the treatment can be adjusted or stopped.
Session length varies depending on the treatment and your individualized care plan. Your provider will explain the recommended process during your consultation.
Spinal decompression is not appropriate for everyone. Our doctor reviews your medical history before recommending it, so please share your full health history, including any past spine concerns or surgeries. Any health conditions that may affect whether decompression is right for you will be discussed during your consultation.
Research on non surgical spinal traction and decompression has produced mixed findings, and clinical guidelines do not support routine traction for all types of low back pain. Decompression is not proven to provide permanent relief, help patients avoid surgery or reliably reverse herniated discs.
Individual responses vary, which is why we rely on a careful clinical assessment and honest expectations.

Non surgical spinal decompression is a form of motorized spinal traction. While you rest on a specialized treatment table, controlled cycles of tension and relaxation gently stretch a targeted area of the lower back or neck. At Moveology 605 in Sioux Falls, it is one of several options within our personalized chiropractic care, considered only after an evaluation of your symptoms, health history and goals. It involves no incisions or anesthesia.
The difference is the area of the spine being treated. Lumbar decompression focuses on the lower back and may be considered for persistent low back discomfort or certain radiating leg symptoms. Cervical decompression focuses on the neck and may be considered for persistent neck discomfort or certain radiating arm symptoms. Positioning and setup differ for each, and our team recommends one, both or neither based on your evaluation.
No. Surgical spinal decompression is an operation, such as a laminectomy or discectomy, performed by a surgeon. Non surgical spinal decompression is a table-based traction therapy with no incisions. The two are very different. If your evaluation suggests a surgical opinion or other medical evaluation is appropriate, our team will tell you and recommend a referral.
Most people describe non surgical decompression as a gentle stretching or pulling sensation rather than pain. Comfort varies from person to person. You are monitored throughout, and you should tell the clinician right away if you feel pain, numbness or anything unusual so the treatment can be adjusted or stopped. Some people notice mild soreness afterward.
It may be considered for some patients with selected disc-related symptoms, but research shows mixed results and benefits are not guaranteed. Decompression does not reliably reverse or reposition a herniated disc, and it is not right for every disc problem. Your evaluation helps determine whether decompression, another treatment or a medical referral makes the most sense for you.
Sciatica describes pain that travels down the leg, and it can have several different causes. Some patients with certain radiating leg symptoms may be evaluated for lumbar decompression, but results vary and it does not cure sciatica. Our team looks at what may be driving your symptoms before recommending decompression, other chiropractic care or further medical evaluation.
There is no single number that applies to everyone. Whether decompression is recommended at all, and how often, depends on your evaluation, your symptoms, your overall health and how you respond. Our team explains any recommendation during your consultation and reassesses your progress along the way, so your plan can change as your needs change.
Not always. Whether imaging or other testing is needed depends on your symptoms, history and examination findings. If our doctor determines that imaging or testing is appropriate before or during care, our clinic orders it. If you already have recent imaging or reports, please bring them or let us know before your consultation.
The only way to know is an individual evaluation. Our doctor reviews your health history, symptoms, examination findings and goals before recommending decompression. Any health conditions that may affect whether decompression is right for you are discussed during your consultation. Decompression is not appropriate for everyone, and another treatment or referral may be recommended instead.
Whether you are experiencing persistent lower back discomfort, neck pain or possible disc-related symptoms, Moveology 605 offers individualized chiropractic evaluation and access to advanced treatment technology in Sioux Falls.
